On October 8, Tourism Minister Cathy Hughes told reporters that she had written to the Vice President asking that the skin be removed.
“I could show you an email that I sent to Minister Ramjattan saying Minister, you need to take that skin down off the wall,” said Hughes adding that Ramjattan was told of the inappropriateness of the skinned animal on his wall.
However Hughes in a recent interview said that she noticed her heeding had falling on deaf ears after having assumed that the remains were taken down.
“Well I was surprised to hear that – I had noticed in all the other photographs and I had assumed he had taken it down,” said the Tourism Minister.
Hughes has committed to once again asking Ramjatttan to remove the animal’s remains from his office.
“I will of course see him again at Cabinet on Tuesday and will remind him when we talk about eco-tourism and our great giants the jaguar is one of those giants and it is inappropriate,” she stated.
